We all have encountered the face of theoretical chemistry, and its <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dos and don&#8217;ts. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But what if someone introduced it to us in a more practical and fun way?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.old.athens-science-festival.gr\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Athens Science Festival<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> comes to fulfill this purpose by presenting us with special and fun workshops, exhibits, experiential workshops, and chemistry activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>An Exhibition full of Chemistry<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most impressive demonstration experiments will be presented to us by the scientific team of<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dixinet-eaa-en.chem.uoa.gr\/\"> <b>MSc in Chemistry Education, Information and Communication Technology and Education for Sustainable Development<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In their action with the title <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.old.athens-science-festival.gr\/en\/exhibitions\/yeah-the-experiments-we-do-have-them\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0&#8220;<\/span><b>Yeah the experiments! We do have them\u2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> don&#8217;t be alarmed if you see \u2026.strange snakes coming out of the \u2026 sand! Not even if a fiery dragon chases you!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Geology departments of the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.geol.uoa.gr\/\"> <b>National and Kapodistrian University of Athens<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.upatras.gr\/en\/\"> <b>University of Patras<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> present us with various minerals and invite us to discover which mineral is hidden in wristwatches and which mineral we brush our teeth with every day. The students from the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntua.gr\/en\/\"> <b>National Technical University of Athens<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, like alchemists, introduce us to the magic of Metallurgy and Materials Science by showing us ways to perform experiments with simple everyday objects. Maybe gold will be created too, who knows?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I will launch controlled explosions and rockets from the counter of the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eex.gr\/\"> <b>Association of Greece Chemists<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, (Regional Department of Attica and Cyclades), while<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scienceisfun.gr\/\"> <b>Science is fun<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in collaboration with the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eef.gr\/index.php?lang=en\"> <b>Association of Greek Physicists<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, shows us how sugar turns into a mirror!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The little-\u201crobot-researchers\u201d from the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsiamoulis.gr\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tsiamoulis Schools<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> present us: Science, STEAM, Experiments &amp; Robotics with simple materials found in a kitchen! The<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.2lykkaisar.gr\/\"> <b>2nd General Lyceum of Kaisariani<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> introduces us to the world of Electrochemistry by showing us improvised electrolysis devices that each of us can make, and the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acs.gr\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Middle School Science Club of American Community Schools of Athens<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will show us the spectral fingerprints of various chemical elements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Kids Labs<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Buckle up for a trip to DNA(!) from the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pharmacy.upatras.gr\/index.php\/en\/research\/laboratories\/491-laboratory-of-pharmacogenomics-and-individualized-therapy\"> <b>Laboratory of Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the University of Patras (Saturday 15:00-16:30) and match minerals with objects of daily use with the help of scientists from the Department of Geology and<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.uoa.gr\/about_us\/museums\/mineralogy_and_petrology_museum\/\"> <b>the Museum of Mineralogy and Petrology<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the National and Kapodistrian University Athens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Chemistry Show<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Come and watch the stand-up theater chemistry workshop from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatronio.gr\/?lang=en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Theatronio<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/SmartChemistry\"><b>Smart Chemistry<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the action with the title &#8220;Mission ImPossible: Explosive reactions&#8221;. At the same time, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/athens.czechcentres.cz\/el\/\"><b>Czech Center of Athens<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &amp; the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mzv.cz\/athens\/en\/index.html\"> <b>Czech Embassy of the Czech Republic in Athens<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> organize an impressive show in which the multi-award-winning scientist<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/michaellondesborough.com\/\"> <b>Michael Londesborough<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> plays with plastic and gives a humorous overview of chemistry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Art Chemistry<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Czech Center of Athens<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &amp; the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mzv.cz\/athens\/en\/index.html\"> <b>Czech Embassy of the Czech Republic in Athens<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> welcome visitors to this year&#8217;s festival with three separate actions. He presents to us the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.old.athens-science-festival.gr\/en\/news_en\/lidice-the-international-childrens-fine-arts-exhibition-in-technopolis\/\"> <b>Lidice International Children&#8217;s Fine Arts Exhibition<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the theme is: &#8220;<\/span><b>Chemistry<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;. |\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After all, Chemistry is interesting!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>October 21-23 | Athens Science Festival | Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chemistry, as strange as it sounds, is really interesting.
