Did you know that environmentalists can solve \u201ccrimes\u201d? Would you like to explore their equipment and become a Trainee Environmental Scientist yourself? How familiar are you with ecosystems and their organization?<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Department of Environment<\/b><\/a> at the <\/span>University of the Aegean<\/b><\/a> is coming to the <\/span>Athens Science Festival<\/b><\/a> to answer all these questions and show students how fun and interesting the profession of Environmentalist can be.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the interactive exhibition \u201c<\/span>CSI: Environment<\/i><\/b>\u201d, young explorers are invited to investigate environmental \u201ccrimes\u201d. Professors, students, and graduates from the Department of Environment will showcase the equipment they use to assess pollution in the field, record the biodiversity of an area, and study the effects of climate change. How do they collect samples? How do they transport them to the laboratory, and what do they observe under the microscope when studying them?<\/span><\/p>\n

Young scientists will have the unique opportunity to become Environmental Scientists. They will observe various types of plants under microscopes, measure the radiation from mobile phones, and assess the physical radioactivity of materials. Using portable instruments, they will determine the biochemical characteristics of the soil. Do you think you will successfully complete these tests and earn the title of the \u201cTrainee\u201d Environmental Scientist?<\/span><\/p>\n

In the interactive workshop \u201c<\/span>Discovering the Ecosystems Around Me<\/i><\/b>\u201d, students will use their senses to connect with nature. They will form small groups to explore materials from various ecosystem types and, using cards, uncover the organization of these ecosystems and the impact of human activities on them. Environmental scientists from the Department of Environment will explain the roles that different species play within ecosystems and how they are affected by pollution and wildfires. In the fun quiz that follows, students will realize just how much they’ve learned about the world that surrounds them!<\/span><\/p>\n

Come to the <\/span>Athens Science Festival<\/b> to get to know the Department of Environment at the University of the Aegean in action and become an Environmental Scientist for a day.<\/span><\/p>\n
