Stelios Anatolitis | Performance | Without a University Degree

What’s it like to live in today’s society as a thirty-five-year-old without a degree? How does a top student suddenly find themselves owing tons of lessons and ends up dropping them? And if they drop them, do they have the chance later on to pick them up from scratch? Can science be involved in their life?

In this talk-performance-gripe with an air, Stelios tries something different to talk about everything he usually can’t talk about on stage.

In sixty minutes of relentless monologue, Stelios will attempt to list everything that makes him perfectly suitable and at the same time completely unsuitable to talk about science. Just as life is not a straight path but a curious journey full of ups, downs, and cliffs, this show-performance-whine-delirium will be the same. Giant questions hover above our heads: Did we ever need the identity (a + b) and all that nonsense or were we fooled in high school? Is division useful only to figure out who owes what in our classmates’ meetings? Do we live next to science or is it something intangible that fails to help us? And why is all this being told to us by a useless person who couldn’t even get a basic degree?

If these are questions that haunt you and keep you awake at night, come listen to Stelios explain (not even close to scientific) all of the above. If not, come, don’t miss it, so that you can have these questions arise and then come back another time when this talk-poetic evening-soiree with a twist will be played and get your answers.

Stelios Anatolitis: Chemist – Stand-up Comedian

Stelios Anatolitis is a stand-up comedian, musician, improvisation teacher, and author with a plethora of performances across Greece. He has studied Chemistry and Theater and will soon have a postgraduate degree in Creative Writing. Additionally, he works as a voice-over artist for radio, television, advertising agencies, and independent productions. He is actively involved in YouTube, with his performances garnering millions of views. Since 2017, he has been based in Athens. He is a member of the “Science Comedy” team, where he, along with comedians and scientists, contributes to the communication of science in a humorous and educational manner. He is a founding member of House of Improv and focuses on teaching Characters, Status, and Narrative. In 2022, he started the podcast “Chemistry for You and Me” in collaboration with Pod.gr, aiming to highlight Chemistry as an interesting and entertaining science. If I understand correctly, “Comedian, Science Communication” is sufficient. Title: “Without a Degree” Description (will be more detailed once the material is worked on): Stelios Anatolitis is perhaps the only person who managed to obtain a postgraduate degree without his undergraduate degree. A significant part of his life struggled to find an identity since he miserably failed to obtain his degree, but for some reason, he persists and engages in Chemistry, wanting to see others obtain their degrees, perhaps seeking redemption through them. However, what space is there for an artist without a degree? How can he boldly talk about Chemistry while being a useless, eternal student? Or is reality much different? “Without a Degree” is a story of confession and reconciliation of an individual with his identity as he approaches his final attempts. It may be bittersweet, it may be funny, but if you know Stelios, then you certainly know it will be surreal. If you don’t know him, this is the opportunity to get to know him. Thank you, Stelios.
